Terrorism: A clear and present danger
The importance of transport hubs within the UK network makes them a prime target for terrorists.

The Director General of the Security Service suggests that terrorism has yet to reach its peak and is the most immediate and acute peacetime threat to life and critical infrastructure in the 98-year history of the Service.

Transportation security staff strive to thwart potential attacks at stations and terminals on a daily basis. Unfortunately, vigilance is not always enough. In this climate, the protection of building occupants from the effects of a blast continues to be the focus of international research and development.
.

Our challenge was to design a blast resistant, automatic sliding door system capable of withstanding the overpressures presented by a Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED). The primary aim being to protect occupants; both from high-velocity shards of glass and from doors being projected into an occupied area. A secondary, though important, aim was to ensure the security integrity of the doors was not unduly compromised, post-attack.

.
In achieving both aims, our Dor-O-Matic 'Bomb Blast' specification - which exceeds the GSA (C), ISO EXV 45 and ISO EXV 25 standards - allows project designers the freedom to incorporate independently tested and certified defences, without aesthetic compromise.

Not to forget the role to be played by our Martin Roberts performance steel doorsets.

We are able to provide both anti-ballistic and multi-level LPCB / SEAP certified security solutions; each level having unique, targeted properties to form a formidable barrier and further enhance safety and security.

Fire: The oldest enemy
Fire, and more specifically smoke, kills. Of all mankind's discoveries, fire is the most frequent, potent and indiscriminate destroyer.

Guarding against the dangers posed by the spread of an uncontrolled fire is a prime concern for construction professionals; particularly so in locations with a concentration of people.

Nothing typifies this more than the confined space of an underground rail station or the multi-layered thoroughfares within an international airport; where the length of protection times can literally be the difference between life or death.

The innate qualities of our enhanced performance steel doorsets offer the highest level of fire protection available. Indeed, at up to 5 hours integrity, they exceed the maximum EN1634-1 test duration by a full hour.

Steel doorsets also offer whole life-cycles extending far beyond that of any other material; especially in a heavy-duty environment such as transportation. When they eventually do require replacing - after decades of use - steel doors typically consist of 90% recyclable content.

A common misconception when considering steel doorsets is that this would preclude an aesthetically pleasing appearance. Not so. Modern design and manufacturing technology means that our fire and smoke control steel doorsets offer neat profiles, tight shutlines and a wide range of finishes including primed, coloured polyester powder coated and stainless steel.

The ability to incorporate CISA heavy duty mechanical locking or Interflex electronic access control systems; plus world renowned and trusted Briton fire door hardware all within a cost-effective, single-source supply package, puts us on the shortest of shortlists for supply chain partnering.

Finally, add a toolbox of related capabilities - such as Fire & Evacuation Muster software - and our value proposition is not just compelling, it's unique.
